I have one child and I spend less than $50 on birthday and Christmas. There’s also a rule in our house that at least one gift will be a book and one will be something that requires activity or imagination. I also have a rule that toys are not supposed to be battery operated, light up, make noise that’s the kids job.

Too much — but it’s hard to say “no” when you imagine how happy it’ll make them….

We probably spend around $150-200 per child (3 kids). We try to get them each something that is a nicer gift, then several smaller gifts. We have lots of family though and they also buy gifts from their Christmas lists so that helps us out. For birthdays, we usually spend less, probably around $50 per child.

This year not much because my fiance and I are saving for a wedding. However, between family — mine, fiancee’s and the kids grandparents on their dad’s side, and their Dad too — they get at least $1000 worth of stuff.
Last year we bought my daughter and iPod and my son a Playstation PSP – we were concerned that they were too young for such expensive gifts, but they have done wonderfully with them. Keeping them nice, and in a safe spot. My son is 10 and my daughter is 12.

Geez, I guess I’m cheap. My kids are 9,7,5,3. I spend a little more on the older ones, like a new bike for a birthday but it was only $55. The younger ones around $30-50 for birthday. For Christmas we spend around $100 for each and maybe $50 for little things and stockings. When they get older I know it will be a little more, but not much!

It depends on my budget.
Somewhere between $100-$150 ea.
This may not sound like a lot to some…
I know people that will spend about $1000 ea. on their children.
It all depends on how much cash you have…I wouldn’t suggest taking out a second mortgage on your home tho to splurge on Christmas gifts.

I have been spending about 300 for birthdays (but that includes paying for the party) and about the same on Christmas but the whole 300 goes toward gifts on Christmas. This year I decided to scale it down and I am already done w/ my Christmas shopping for my daughter! I have spent a little less than 200! She also gets planty from my mom and bros and sis and even a few of my friends so she wont be lacking anything!!!

I dont think I would ever come close to spending all that money. $100 on birthdays and around 5 on christmas. I just bought my newborn some cute outfits on http://www.ohbabygifts.com though. I guess at the end of the year it all adds up

Christmas- $200-$300/child
Birthday- $100/child
I have two children ages 7&8. I always felt like I wasn’t being fair to my kids by only spending this amount on them but I’m glad to see I’m not alone. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with that much but we don’t buy toys and junk throughout the year so I don’t feel as bad. The older my kids get the more expensive they get too.

I usually buy one large gift, something my daughter has asked for all year long… maybe about $100, then some little things as well. I would say no more than $300. But my daughter is 4 so she doesn’t know the difference yet. For her birthday we spend more throwing the party than we do on gifts. This year we had it at Chuck E. Cheese and the party cost $80, her gift cost like $25. It just depends on the person and the kid.

Jeez, I think I’m cheap now. I spent $40 last year for my 10 yr old daughter’s gift and for Christmas we spend about $75. I don’t think we’ve ever spent more than that.
For her next birthday she wants to go to IHOP for breakfast and two CD’s. Maybe she’ll become more expensive as she gets older.
